'The Originals': Daniella Pineda on Sophie's current situation, her reaction to The Harvest reveal, and possibly reuniting with DavinaAdd to Favorites | The Originals
The witch who started all the drama on "The Originals" by luring Klaus back to New Orleans under false pretenses is kind of ... well, screwed at the moment.
Sophie Devereaux (Daniella Pineda) lost the Originals siblings as her allies since they found out her true intention was to find little witch Davina and kill her, thus completing The Harvest ritual. Plus, she lost any protection she had once Davina severed the link between her and pregnant werewolf Hayley. So with no allies and no protection, what's Sophie's next move?
"What's kind of interesting, my character right now is on everybody's s*** list," Pineda told Zap2it on a recent set visit in Atlanta. "The head werewolf doesn't like her. The Originals don't' like her. Whatever she comes up with, it'd better be good. Ttherwise, she's somewhat useless in New Orleans right now. Because she has no leverage and no way to save her people."
Not only is she unable to complete The Harvest ritual, restoring power to all the witches, she also suffered a major loss when Elijah killed the last remaining elder, Agnes. "It is a really big blow. The elders are gone, but the elders have the access to all the major power," Pineda says. "Even though Davina's sucked up a great deal from The Harvest, the elders know what they're doing, they know how to proceed. And my character was rather reluctant in the beginning, so it's a huge blow. Nothing could be worse for the witches than right now. The only other option is who will become the next elder, and that takes time."
So is there anything Sophie can do now? "There will be a plan B. It's not the end of Sophie," Pineda teases. "She will definitely come up with something, and I know what it is, but I can't say. It's very clever."
Seeing as how Sophie's main goal right now is to find Davina and kill her (thus completing The Harvest ritual and restoring all the power currently in Davina to all the witches), we had to ask: Will Sophie and Davina be reuniting anytime soon? "Yes, maybe," Pineda says with a laugh. "They'll have to at some point. They're two important witches in the same town, they're bound to run into each other, I imagine."
With all the drama going on in the witch community, Pineda says Sophie isn't focusing on any relationships at the moment, despite having a past with former King of New Orleans, Marcel. "I think right now, there's so much chaos and loss, it's almost like a post-breakup. You kind of just don't want to leave the house. You just want to binge-eat and sleep," Pineda says. "She's not at a love point right now. Will there be a love interest? Yes, because as you've probably seen, Sophie likes to 'socialize' with her fellow men. And women! So, yes there will be, but right now I think she's just focusing on the next move."
When it came time to shoot the game-changing reveal of The Harvest ritual, Pineda was excited to see how it would turn out. "When I read The Harvest episode, it was exciting, because I was wondering how they were going to pull off the gore," Pineda says. "That was a really crazy scene to shoot and it took like two days to shoot. There were so many stunts going on. But as a character reading The Harvest, that was responsible for turning Sophie into a full believer. Before, she was apprehensive, she questioned it, and I think seeing that power move from Monique to Davina, that set in stone that this isn't BS, this is the real deal."
The Harvest was a turning point for Sophie, and Pineda says that will continue to be her motivation going forward. "Personally, I connected with my character even more, because it's like yet another person she loses, yet nothing to lose moving forward," Pineda says. "The Harvest episode is one of my favorites so far."
"The Originals" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
