'The Originals': Nathan Parsons knows a lot about werewolf mythologyAdd to Favorites | The Originals
"I love legends and myths and stories, especially Gothic stories. There's something about them," he tells Zap2it. "They are so dark and they're so twisted and I just love that we've created a world in which anything could happen -- really, truly, anything. We have the witches and they can create daylight rings, where the vampires walk in daylight, and they create moonlight rings where the wolves can control what they are. The opportunities are absolutely limitless. When you're a part of a story like that, it's incredible."
Parsons' Jackson is the leader of a werewolf clan in the bayou, and he says his character is very similar to Original brother Elijah.
"It's going to be interesting to see going forward how Elijah and Jackson start to interact because they're both head of their family and it's a pretty broken family, but they are both the ones who take the burden of being in charge," he says." Elijah's often called noble and I think the same can almost be said for Jackson. He's a smart guy trying to do what's right, but he's got to deal with a lot of a lot of burdens, a lot of hurdles to overcome."
But while Elijah might be noble, it doesn't mean that Jackson trusts him at all. "Wolves don't trust vampires; wolves don't like vampires," he says. "You know, the fact that they go around murdering, slaughtering our people for years and we are supposed to turn a blind eye is really a difficult thing to swallow and although Elijah hadn't had a hand in that personally, he is sort of representative of the vampires at this point and there's a lot of respect and also a lot of rivalry there."
Right now, the action on the show is all leading toward the birth of Hayley's baby, which will happen at some point before the end of Season 1. "It is all charging blindly towards a cliff at this point," Parsons says. "Along the way we're trying to form these alliances and they keep breaking and we all want to just live but we don't want anyone else to live really, so it's a mess."
He continues, "I don't know, I'm curious myself, I haven't seen how this will end, I don't know yet so I am curious how we sort of play with that dynamic and especially involving Hayley. She's right in the middle of us. ... The werewolves are unfortunately still in a pretty weakened spot right now," he says. "The goal is not to just gain power, but more just to kind of secure our position in this whole thing."
"The Originals" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
