The 'Psych' pineapple: EP Steve Franks picks his favoritesAdd to Favorites | Psych
"I don't think it's in every episode because sometimes we were cutting them out. But we have pretty much at least shot one for just about every episode," says Franks.
He also tells us that the pineapple holds a very special place in his heart.
"For me, I wrote my first movie while I was working as the foreman at the Enchanted Tiki Room presented by Dole Pineapple at Disneyland," laughs Franks. "So I have a affinity that is unnatural for the pineapple. It is the international welcome fruit. And when you find good pineapple, there's nothing in the world like it."
As for how it began on the show, it was all because of some improvisation done by star James Roday during the pilot episode.
"James actually started the ball rolling by jumping into picking up a pineapple prop in the pilot, that was on top of a refrigerator," says Franks. "And it's been something that's really symbolized our show in a really fun way."
When we informed Franks that we were setting out to create a photo gallery of all the "Psych" pineapples, he could not believe it.
"Oh my gosh. I think you have your work cut out for you, finding all of them. But there's a lot of fun in letting viewers try to find the pineapple," he says. And then he gives us some tips:
"In 'Shawn Rescues Darth Vader,' the pineapple is actually carved into the staircase. There's a design and it's a pineapple," says Franks. "When I went and scouted the location, I couldn't believe it."
"The other one that's my favorite ... in 'Extradition,' the pineapple is the balloon animal guy at the very end. The balloon animal guy has just made a pineapple balloon animal. That's a great one to find," he finishes.
