'The Secret Life of the American Teenager': David takes the cash for clunkers deal
Ah, how quickly time passes, it seems like just last week that those crazy kids on "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" were getting ready for summer, and now, this week, school started again. We didn't even get time to see Ben learn things in Bologna.
It was definitely a "the more things change the more they stay the same" episode (not that there's anything wrong with that, I love these crazy, dumb kids) -- we instantly found out that Ricky and Adrian were cheating on each other again, that Ashley didn't care (or pretended to not care) what people thought of her, Jack liked football, Grace was still holier than thou, and Ben was still bad at the whole dating thing. Which is pretty much where we left everyone last week.
Now, Ben's issues were completely understandable -- he's in high school and doesn't want to work that hard at a relationship. Sure, that statement was a little daft -- he's been dating someone who has a kid, obviously there's going to be work required -- but it did make sense that he didn't want to have to struggle every step of the way. And, let's not pretend that every single conversation with Amy about anything doesn't turn into a struggle. It does.
At least Ben did manage to do pretty well in his conversation after school with her. I tend to think those two could make it as a couple, if they both sort of readjust their expectations of the other and what a relationship can and should be. Plus, communication, those two need to communicate -- but not every day when one is in Italy obsessively communicate, just communicate in general. Have those two never heard of texting, e-mail, and IM? They didn't have to spend tons of time every day on the phone.
Why was Amy giving clothing advice to Ashley tonight (other than Amy knowing how to dress to make boys want to impregnate her)? Amy actually said to her mom "she can't go to school like that." Unbelievable, Amy went to her first day of school knocked up and she was complaining about what Ashley was wearing? Maybe Ashley just didn't want to end up "with child" and figured that black clothes would help ensure that. Okay, strike that, she showed up at school in full hussy attire. Why was that? Was that what Anne suggested she wear (no wonder Anne found herself pregnant again)?
Do you think we're going to have to sit through another year where Adrian and Ricky sleep with anyone and everyone they possibly can and then get upset at the other for doing the exact same thing? I'm thinking that those two should just bag the whole relationship, either that or be honest about what, and who, they're doing.
Finally -- George and Anne! They're going to get back together, right? Anne said it was too late, but I don't buy that, and you don't either, I know you don't. Yippee!
Odds and ends:
- Umm... that text Alice sent at the beginning of the episode, that went to Henry who was somewhere beneath the sheets, didn't it? Good for those two figuring it all out! If at first you don't succeed...
- For the record, I have it on good authority that doctors don't touch every patient's shoulder and get in their face in order to instill confidence.
- Griffin the freshman. Is he a character on the show now?
- The coach telling Grace to not talk to Jack during the football season was a great moment; Grace is still rubbing me the wrong way so her being told not to talk in general sounds good to me.
- George is right about the car, but I'll let you vote on it anyway.
