'The Simpsons' come to Florida: Universal Studios is building Springfield
Finally confirming rumors that Universal was planning this project, the Studios announced on Thursday (May 23) that the area around the Simpsons ride in Orlando would be rebuilt to mimic the streets of Springfield. Landmarks of the real-life town will include Moe's Tavern, a Lard Lad donut shop and a Krusty Burger. As for attractions, Universal plans a new one with a Kang & Kodos theme.
Not announced yet but hopefully a part of the project are such places as the nuclear power plant, the Burns mansion and of course the Simpsons' own house.
Universal Orlando already has one dedicated theme area: the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Considering the popularity of "The Simpsons" over so many years, there is a very good chance that the studios' Springfield creation could be just as much of a success.
