When "The Simpsons" went on air with their normal intro Sunday (November 3), there was a noticeable different. Bart Simpson's chalkboard message, usually promising he won't do something again, was instead a tribute Marcia Wallace, who died on October 25.

Wallace voiced Bart's teacher, Edna Krabappel. Instead of a message being repeated all over the chalkboard, Bart simply writes "We'll really miss you Mrs. K," before looking at his words with a grief-stricken frown.

Executive producer Al Jean says once the episodes Wallace had already recorded have aired, her character will be retired from the series. Mrs. Krabappel's first appearance on the show came in the second episode of Season 1, "Bart the Genius."
