On Monday's episode of "The Talk," Sara Gilbert had exciting news to share with her fellow co-hosts. She announced her engagement to musician girlfriend Linda Perry. Gilbert told the audience that the proposal happened "about a week ago," and caught her by surprise.
Gilbert says she and Perry were in a park eating, when people with string instruments showed up and began playing "Love Song," by The Cure. She says the couple had decided that particular tune would be "their song," as another favorite between them, John Waite's "Missing You," was about a breakup.
As the song played, Perry popped the question. "She goes to her backpack and she pulls out these T-shirts and the first T-shirt says 'will' and then puts on another T-shirt and it says, 'you,' then 'marry,' 'me.' And the last one's a question mark," Gilbert says, "It's the most amazing proposal ever."
The surprises didn't end there, as Perry then introduced Waite, and he played their other song, "Missing You." "We had our proposal with our breakup song," Gilbert says, "which is great."
Gilbert went on to thank fans of the show for their support of gay marriage, and allowing her to feel comfortable talking about the event. " I wanted you guys to know because I feel like you're a part of our family here."
