The highly anticipated thriller, "The Tourist," opens Friday, Dec. 10 and will showcase two of Hollywood's A-list together on screen for the first time. Not only have Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie never before starred alongside each other, they had never even met prior to filming their latest flick.
This comes as a bit of a surprise to us at Zap2it, as there are quite a few parallels between the entertainers. We've questioned their sanity at various points throughout their careers, they've both won numerous awards, have a fondness for the country of France and are both "living in sin" with their long term partner and children. But of course, you already knew all of that.
We did a little digging and found quite a few surprising similarities (and connections) between the stars. Here are our Top 5.
1. They are the sexiest people alive:
Angelina was labeled the most beautiful woman in the world by People in 2006, as well as by Vanity Fair in 2009.
2. They share a star sign:
Johnny was born on June 9, 1963 and Angelina on June 4, 1975.
Both actors fall under the zodiac sign of Gemini, which is generally characterized as intellectually inclined with an active imagination. They are quick-witted, think fast on their feet, and place a high value on intelligence. While this means the two were sure to have found each other's minds fascinating, it's doubtful that any sparks flew between them. Two Geminis do not typically make a compatible romantic match.
3. They both have 13 tattoos:
Johnny has 13 tattoos signifying important people and events in his life ranging from his children and mother, to a former love. He had "Winona Forever" tattooed on his right arm in honor of girlfriend and "Edward Scissorhands" co-star, Winona Ryder. After they broke up, he had the ink altered to read "Wino Forever."
Angelina has 13 known tattoos, and also has had a few covered or removed (one of which was for ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton). Much of her body art is actually meaningful text written in various languages.
4. They each come from troubled pasts:
Johnny and his family lived in over 20 different places before settling in Florida when he was 7 years old. At 15, his parents divorced. Johnny reacted by inflicting self pain upon himself with a knife, from which he still carries physical scars. At 16, he dropped out of high school to pursue a music career.
Angelina was born to actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. Only a year after her birth, her parents separated. She and her brother were raised by their mother in Palisades, New York, but returned to Los Angeles 10 years later. Angelina dropped out of school at 14 with ambitions of being a funeral director. In high school she dyed her hair purple, collected knives and began cutting herself. She eventually re-enrolled in theatre school and received her high school diploma.
5. Angelina has co-starred with some extremely important people from Johnny's past.
In the early 1980s, Johnny's then wife introduced him to actor, Nicolas Cage. It was Cage who encouraged the future star to pursue a career in acting. Fast forward to the year 2000, and Cage co-starred alongside Angelina in her very first summer blockbuster, "Gone in 60 Seconds."
Meeting Winona Ryder on the set of "Edward Scissorhands," Johnny dated the actress from 1989-1993. Come 1999, Angelina starred alongside Winona in her Oscar-winning role as Lisa Rowe in "Girl, Interrupted."
