Paul Wesley has played two different characters on "The Vampire Diaries" -- vampire Stefan and immortal gypsy Silas -- but he's about to take on a new role: Director.

Wesley will make his directorial debut on an upcoming episode of The CW series, BuzzFeed reports. He will be the first actor from "The Vampire Diaries" to take over directing duties for an episode.

"It's an honor and the cast couldn't be any more supportive, which I feel truly grateful for," Wesley says of his episode, Season 5 episode 18, which is "both nostalgic and suspenseful." "It feels like our world, but something is a bit askew. It feels uneasy. And I respond to that."

Usually when an actor helms an episode of his or her own series, that means the episode will feature less of his or her character. But good news, Stefan fans: Wesley promises that's not the case with his episode. "It's not Stefan-light, but it's also not Stefan-heavy," Wesley says. "I'd say it is somewhere in the middle. A good friend of mine recently directed a film he also starred in, and I was on set the whole time, so I got to see firsthand what that experience looked like."

Wesley is excited to take on new responsibilities. "Directing is something that I've been passionate about for a long time [and] I've had many, many lessons over the last 15 years and many mentors," Wesley says. "But the thing that I have most discovered over the last year is that it is entirely a team effort. Every single person on set, from props to focus puller to director of photography to the actors themselves, is crucial."

Congratulations on your new role, Wesley. We can't wait to see the episode.

"The Vampire Diaries" returns with all-new episodes on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
