The CW is bringing Michael Malarkey back into the fold.

After starring as the male lead Prince Maxon in the second version of the failed "Selection" pilot this past season, the actor has been cast in Season 5 of "The Vampire Diaries." Malarkey landed a major recurring role on The CW's veteran drama, Deadline reports.

Malarkey will play Enzo, a charismatic but tortured figure from Damon's past. He comes to Mystic Falls desperate to reconnect with his old friend.

Malarkey's first episode airs Thursday, Dec. 5, and no word yet on how many episodes he will appear in or what kind of havoc he will wreak on Mystic Falls.

"The Vampire Diaries" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
