'The Vampire Diaries' Season 6: Michael Trevino reveals how Tyler's return as a human will mature him
Because Markos and the Travelers pushed his body over the boundary line during their "no magic" spell, Tyler's body was stripped of all magic, returning him to his original state -- a human with the werewolf gene. So now that he's a human and alive once more, where does that leave him for Season 6?
"Season 6 is going to be a new chapter for everybody. We're all wiping the slate clean and everything is new," Trevino tells Zap2it. "Some time will have passed from the season finale when we pick back up in the beginning of Season 6 and for Tyler, it's going to be a whole new world for him."
Trevino teases that becoming a human again will change everything for Tyler. "It's exciting but scary," Trevino says. "He doesn't have his supernatural abilities anymore in a supernatural world, so how can he protect himself? But it's also nice because now, maybe he won't have to deal with all the extracurriculars that come with being a hybrid or being a werewolf or being a vampire. It will be interesting to see where his journey starts and where it ends up."
Faced with a literal new lease on life, Trevino is excited to see what Tyler chooses to do. "I'm curious as to what's going to happen with Tyler now that he's human," Trevino says. "I feel like he's kind of in the danger zone a bit because he's not able to protect himself but he's still aware of all this supernatural activity going on, so I'm curious to see if he's going to stay involved with the supernatural world as far as the friends that he has. Or, is he going to try and break away and live a normal life?"
And as for that pesky werewolf gene, Trevino wouldn't spill as to whether or not he thinks Tyler has it in him to stay human and not trigger the change again. "We shall see," he says with a laugh.
Trevino has loved playing Tyler as a human, then as a werewolf, and then as a hybrid because it brings out the kind of person that he always has been on the inside. "I was able to carry that torch of alpha male aggressiveness, and the wolf pack, and always going against the top dog Klaus, that was always fun," Trevino says. "Even though he never won, [laughs] he still had the balls to against the big dog and do that. He carried that torch alone for a while but now he gets to drop that torch and begin a different journey. You're going to see a more mature Tyler."
When Tyler came back from the Other Side, the first thing he did was hug his ex Caroline. Given all the animosity that went down between them all season long after Caroline slept with Klaus, it was a surprising gesture, and one that left fans wondering what Season 6 would hold in store for this once-close couple.
"Since some time has passed, what's done is done between them," Trevino says. "Everything was so crazy by the end of Season 5, but they still have love for each other. They're still friends. But as for their relationship, I think their time has passed. I don't see them in a romantic relationship in the future. But I do see them staying friends, and I think the whole human aspect is going to have a lot to do with that."
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 premieres this fall on The CW.
