christina-blake-voice.jpg "The Voice" added a new twist in its quarterfinals this week. Instead of waiting for America to vote, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton were required to cut their teams down to 3 people each immediately after the contestants performed.

Aguilera was very focused on her contestants' growth, and she ultimately decided that Jesse Campbell was the least improved player. It was definitely an emotional elimination, particularly because he'd just given an extremely poignant performance for his daughter, decorating the stage with photos of her. His rendition of Beyonce's "Halo" was memorable.

Shelton felt that all of his artists gave equally powerful performances this week. Thus, he chose based on America's vote from last week, and decided to axe Jordis, even though he'd just saved her! It was a surprising cut, given that she excelled this week in stepping outside her comfort zone with her performance of "A Little Bit Stronger" by Sara Evans.

The contestants' versions of "Halo" and "Stronger" will still be available on iTunes this week, but if you buy them, the votes don't count, obviously.
