"The Walking Dead" is refreshing its ranks with a new series regular in Season 5. Seth Gilliam ("The Wire") has joined the cast as a character being called "Michael Todd," but who actually could end up playing Father Gabriel.
Deadline has the news about Gilliam's casting, and also notes that the "Michael Todd" alias isn't the real name for Gilliam's character. "Michael" is described as "having two sides, displaying a friendly, puckish humor but also having a haunted side stemming from a dark secret."
Father Gabriel Stokes is first introduced in issue 61 of Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead" comics. In that story, Father Gabriel comes across the group when they are on the road after the Governor took the Prison.
His introduction comes before that of the Hunters, which may or may not be the equivalent of the people running Terminus. It would make sense for Father Gabriel to be introduced at this point in "The Walking Dead" TV show, though whether Gilliam is playing the character has not been confirmed.
"The Walking Dead" Season 5 is expected to premiere in October on AMC.
