'The X Factor': Carlos Guevara on his elimination and the 'Mad World' performance you would've seenAdd to Favorites | The X Factor
"People weren't as excited about me in the competition on social media," he tells Zap2it backstage after his elimination at the top of the show. "I didn't really know what to expect, but it happened. I am trying my best not to feel bad about it."
Guevara doesn't have any hard feelings, though, because he was really impressed with how his fellow contestants performed during Top 13 week. "One thing that keeps me well and grounded is that if I were to be eliminated and I thought one of the contestants didn't deserve to be there I would feel even more bummed than I do. I think the good thing is that I believe in all 12 of the contestants that are still there," Guevara says. "Each have such an amazing talent and an equal chance to win and I'm just glad to have been able to build such amazing friendships and relationships that will hopefully last a lifetime."
Last week's voting mix-up forced the elimination to happen at the beginning of the show, which means Guevara had already rehearsed a number he expected to perform. Had he stayed, you would've heard a slowed-down, Gary Jules-esque version of the Tears for Fears hit "Mad World." "I had dancers and it was going to have an eerie feel to it," he shares. "They were going to come out with fencing masks in all black and it was going to be kinda creepy. I was so excited because I knew the song was going to fit me perfectly."
Because this is the first time the contestants watched one of their fellow finalists go home, it put a damper on the whole evening. "The competition got very real," says Rachel Potter. "Last week with the voting snafu I think we were all like, 'Maybe we'll just all live here in 'X Factor' la la land forever and just sing and be happy!' Things got real tonight. We're all going to go home, and that's really sad -- and there is going to be a day where I go home too."
