Judges don't always last long on reality competition shows. In the case of L.A. Reid and "The X Factor," the judge only made it through two seasons: Reid has confirmed that he will not return for season 3 of the singing competition.

Reid confirmed his departure during an interview with Access Hollywood on Thursday (Dec. 13). The judging panel will of course remain the same for the few episodes left in "The X Factor" Season 2, but there will be definite changes in season 3.

Why would L.A. Reid decide to leave? His main reason seems to be the time spent away from his company, Epic Records. "I have a company to run that I've kind of neglected," he said. "I have a huge responsibility to a roster of artists, and it's kind of time for me to stop doing 'the me' show and get back to doing 'the them' show."

When asked about any personal reasons that may have been a factor in his departure from judging, Reid was quick to deny any trouble. "I love Simon," he insisted. "We have a great relationship. We have fun together, we talk, we laugh, we do bad things. We're friends."

L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell were the only two judges to return for a second season of "The X Factor" this fall. The other two judges, Demi Lovato and Britney Spears, were both new this season. There is no word yet on who might replace Reid when he leaves.
