simon-cowell-nigel-lythgoe-gi-320.jpg Simon Cowell is trying to drum up interest in his under-performing singing competition "The X Factor" however he can. His most recent idea is to have a "super final" between the winners of his show and the higher-rated programs "The Voice" and "American Idol." But this concept was met with a tepid response by at least one person.

Upon hearing this proposal, Nigel Lythgoe, Cowell's former boss and the current EP at "Idol," responds with a more than snarky Tweet. He writes on Feb. 16, "@simoncowell suggests the IDOL winner should take on the voice and x-factor winners. The problem is the Idol winner will be a star by then." Ouch!

"The X Factor" struggled in the ratings during its first season. As Season 1 wound down, Cowell promised changes going into next year. And he wasn't kidding as the show recently fired judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger as well as host Steve Jones. There are now rumors that A-list singers ranging from Janet Jackson to Pink are up for consideration for the judges table.

The series begins auditions for Season 2 in March.
