Tig Notaro's cancer stand-up 'masterful,' says Louis C.K., who is selling the CD on his siteAdd to Favorites | Conan
On "Conan" Thursday night (Sept. 20), comedian Tig Notaro recounted a rather unbelievably rough span of four months she recently went through -- pneumonia, an intestine-attacking disease, her mom dying unexpectedly, a relationship ending and then a Stage 2 breast cancer diagnosis.
And the day she was diagnosed, she had a stand-up show to do in Los Angeles, with comedian Louis C.K. as her special guest. And she wasn't quite sure what to do, thinking she could come out and talk about cancer, then she thought, "What if somebody has cancer and I offend somebody? And then I was like, 'Wait. I have cancer!'"
So she took the stage and announced she has cancer and what ensued that night, Aug. 3, Louis C.K. tweeted, "In 27 years doing this, I've seen a handful of truly great, masterful standup sets. One was Tig Notaro last night at Largo."
He insisted she sell the audio of the performance, so his website is now selling Tig's CD, called "Live" (rhymes with "give) because of the message behind it. And also that Tig had a double mastectomy and is now cancer-free with a good prognosis.
Portions of the proceeds from the CD will go to breast cancer charities. It doesn't appear to be on sale just yet but should be soon.
