Orlando Bloom and Sir Ian McKellen appeared on "Today" to debut "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" trailer and talk about returning to their roles -- Orlando, after 10 years.
"It was a joy, actually," Bloom says. "Legolas, I would say ... I mean, I had such a wonderful time playing the character to begin with, and to have had the call to get to come back and don the blonde wig and the pointy ears was just wonderful. He's a very fun character. You know, there's nothing not to like about him. He's 'the action elf.'"
McKellen takes a moment to point out that Bloom "doesn't seem 10 years older" after first portraying the character of Legolas in Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
After debuting the brand new trailer for "Desolation of Smaug," in theaters Dec. 13, McKellen reveals that Jackson told him "this was his favorite of all the movies he's made so far." That certainly bodes well for "Smaug."
