'Toddlers & Tiaras' asks if pageant mom is crazy, shows her being racist instead
"Toddlers & Tiaras" is always a bit of a gamble -- like playing Russian roulette in specially-made heels for children. You know you're going to get crazy, but it's never clear if it will to come from the carefully made-up offspring or the mothers pushing them into the spotlight.
The Sept. 14 episode, the you-can't-make-this-up-tastically-titled "International Fresh Faces Missouri," clearly intends to showcase the latter.
11-year-old Sydney (sweet, 11-year-old Sydney) has a mom named Marlo, and in addition to admitting that she's an "insane pageant mom," Marlo appears to set a generally horrible example for her daughter in a flurry of awkwardly stereotyping impersonations.
In a clip from TLC, Marlo is first shown prompting her daughter to wear her crown to the side and act like a "homie," before then giving her a pedicure while speaking with an ambiguously Asian accent that's less nail salon than it is WWII propaganda short.
"You're not Chinese," says Sydney. Out of the mouths of babes...
You can see what other groups she might offend when her episode of "T&T" premieres Wed. night, at 10:00 p.m. ET, on TLC.
