Tom Brokaw diagnosed with cancer: Doctors optimistic
NBC News special correspondent Tom Brokaw revealed some sad news Tuesday (Feb. 11): The longtime TV journalist has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer affected the blood cells in bone marrow.
Brokaw, 74, was diagnosed with cancer in August 2013 at the Mayo Clinic. Fortunately, NBC News reports that doctors are optimistic about the treatment Brokaw is treating.
"With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come," Brokaw says in a statement. "I remain the luckiest guy I know."
He continues, "I am very grateful for the interest in my condition but I also hope everyone understands I wish to keep this a private matter."
Brokaw is husband to Meredith Lynn Auld and father to Jennifer Jean Brokaw, Andrea Brooks Simon and Sarah Auld Brokaw. Our thoughts are with him and his family.
