Tom Hiddleston replaces Benedict Cumberbatch in 'Crimson Peak'
Benedict Cumberbatch might be out of Guillermo del Toro's upcoming movie "Crimson Peak," but an equally awesome Brit is replacing him. Tom Hiddleston, known best as Loki in "The Avengers" and for being an adorable human being, will star in the haunted house thriller instead.
That means Hiddleston is joining an already strong cast. Charlie Hunnam (who worked with del Toro on "Pacific Rim"), Mia Wasikowska (who Hiddleston starred with in "Only Lovers Left Alive" and who he can be seen with to the left) and Jessica Chastain are all on board the project, which is slated to start filming in early 2014.
The role that was Cumberbatch's and is now Hiddleston's has not been revealed, but clearly it requires a strapping Brit who just happens to be a fantastic actor. It was disappointing when Cumberbatch left the role, but the fact that Hiddleston will play the part instead totally makes up for that big let down.
No release date has been set for "Crimson Peak." Del Toro has said it's a "very set-oriented classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story" that would allow him to "play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules."
