Tour de France 2012: Andre Greipel wins stage 5

Cavendish had a rough stage 4 after hitting pavement when several bikes snarled in a tangled crash.

Australian Matt Goss and Argentine Juan Jose Haedo finished second and third on the 122 mile stage 5 that took riders from Rouen to Saint-Quentin in western France. The course was mostly flat, favoring sprinters and Greipel handily won his second stage in a row, as predicted.

Fabian Cancellara retains his overall Tour lead, followed by Bradley Wiggins and Sylvain Chavanel. Wiggins, along with defending champ Cadel Evans, is favored to win the race.

On Friday riders will ride a mostly flat 207 km course from Épernay to Metz.
