Tour de France 2012: Peter Sagan wins stage 3 with a nod to 'Forrest Gump'
Sagan, by the way, says his finish line antics were a nod to the Tom Hanks movie " Forrest Gump" ("Run, Forrest, Run!") and were well earned after he sprang from the peleton to take the lead close to the finish line.
The race's third stage, which took its horde of bikers from Orchies to Boulogne-sur-Mer carried riders over 207.5 kilometers of water-logged road, through rainy weather. There were at least four recorded crashes towards the end of the race, several mechanical problems and more than one case of a cyclist missing a sharp turn.
"It was really hard ... the group was nervous, everyone wanted to be up front, there were a lot of crashes," Sagan said after completing Tuesday's portion of the race. "It was a very dangerous stage."
Cancellara leads the racers followed by Brit Bradley Wiggins and France's Sylvain Chavanel.
On Wednesday, riders will trek 214.5 miles from Abbeville to Rouen.
