Tracy Morgan, a former star of "30 Rock," has closed a deal with FX to star in a new comedy pilot, "Death Pact." Production on the single-camera comedy will begin this summer in the New York/New Jersey area.

"Death Pact," created by Rob Long ( "Sullivan & Son") and Tad Safran, focuses on Morgan's character -- a former pothead and assistant high school coach who returns home from war as a decorated hero. When the man meets up with three of his still-lazy and out-of-luck friends, he tries to motivate them. This involves a radical self-help philosophy in which there are major and harsh consequences for those who fail.

Nick Grad, the executive vice president for original programming and development at FX said the following about the new show: "Needless to say anything starring Tracy Morgan could be off-the-charts hilarious and we're betting this one is. Rob Long, Tad Safran, [and executive producers] Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum have delivered a terrific starring vehicle for Tracy. We look forward to casting the other three co-stars and getting started with production. This is going to be fun."
