'Treme' actor Michael Showers dead at 45, found in Mississippi River

michael-showers-treme-hbo.jpgVery sad news. Michael Showers, who appeared on HBO's "Treme" as Captain John Guidry, was found dead in the Mississippi River and pulled from the water on Wednesday. The coroner's office in New Orleans reports that his body was likely in the water for two days, Reuters reports.

In a statement, "Treme" creator David Simon says, "Michael Showers was a fine actor who contributed his talents to our drama in the warmest and most professional way. We enjoyed his work -- and working with him. Going forward, we're going to miss having him as part of our production. All of which seems of little import in light of the loss of a man's whole life, and what that loss truly means to him, his family, his friends. Our respect and condolences go to them, especially."

Showers was 45. He can currently be seen in the film "Colombiana" as a police officer, and may also be recognizable for short roles on "The Vampire Diaries" and "Breaking Bad." The New Orleans Police Department are still investigating cause of death.
