'Trophy Wife' to parody 'Scandal': Matching the cast with their Gladiator counterparts
"We have an episode coming up that becomes a 'Scandal' parody," co-creator and executive producer Emily Halpern says, speaking to reporters on Monday (Feb. 10). "Diane [ Marcia Gay Harden] has a bit of a failure, which as we know is very unlike her, and she winds up sort of binge-watching a lot of 'Scandal' episodes and channels her Olivia Pope [ Kerry Washington]."
Diane turns to Kate ( Malin Akerman) for help "taking down the conspiracy in the PTA," executive producer Lee Eisenberg adds of the episode, which will air in April. "[It's] very high stakes."
With Diane trying on Olivia's white hat, let's have some fun and match up the rest of "Trophy Wife" with their Gladiator counterparts. (Of course, we're leaving the kids out of this because that would just be weird. Though, let's be real, Hillary ( Bailee Madison) is a total Mellie-in-the-making.)
- Kate: With Diane-as-Olivia turning to Kate for help, that would make her the Abby (Darby Stanchfield) of the situation. She's Liv's right-hand woman.
- Pete (Bradley Whitford): The lawyer of the group, Pete is a total Harrison (Colombus Short).
- Jackie (Michaela Watkins): Jackie doesn't know who she is, doesn't know her place in the group and is often floundering. Duh, Jackie is Quinn (Katie Lowes).
- Meg (Natalie Morales): With her specific set of skills and her willingness to do the dirty things others wouldn't, Meg is, without a doubt, Huck (Guillermo Diaz).
What do you think of the Gladiator match-ups? Any we got wrong? Sound off in the comments below.
