christopher-meloni-gi.jpg Christopher Meloni is reportedly considering his next TV role -- and it's about as far removed from "Law & Order: SVU's" Elliot Stabler as you can imagine.

HBO's "True Blood" has targeted Meloni for a key role in Season 5, TVLine reports. It's early days in terms of actually signing him for the part, but the show's producers have him in mind for the role of an "incredibly powerful" vampire.

If the "True Blood" courtship works out, it would be Meloni's second role on an HBO series. He previously played sociopathic inmate Chris Keller on "Oz," which frequently featured him in various states of undress. Given "True Blood's" penchant for showing skin, that experience could serve Meloni well.

We still think Meloni -- who's also in "Man of Steel" -- should look for a straight-up comedy to do next, but we can easily see him on "True Blood" as well. What do you think of the (possible) news?
