'True Detective': Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson get swampy in HBO drama
HBO has released the first teaser for its upcoming series "True Detective," and no, it's not a "True Blood" spinoff.
You could be forgiven for thinking otherwise after watching the 30-second spot for the show, which stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. The promo is pretty much all atmosphere, joining shots of various desolate-looking stretches of Louisiana bayou with brooding music and the tagline, "Around here, darkness lives on both sides of the law." McConaughey and Harrelson appear for about half a second toward the end of the teaser, looking grim.
The teaser even adopts some of "True Blood's" graphics, with words alternately displaying in red and white.
Despite all that, "True Detective" is vampire-free. The two leads play detectives in Louisiana who are involved in a serial-killer case over 17 years. The story will switch between the early days of the case and the present day, when the file is re-opened.
"True Detective" is set to premiere next year on HBO.
