HBO has released the first real look at its upcoming series "True Detective," and it does not appear to be a lighthearted affair.

As with the all-atmosphere teaser back in June, there's a brooding quality to the full trailer for the show, which stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as Louisiana detectives working a serial-killer case. The show covers both their initial investigation and the reopening of the case years later, which helps explain McConaughey's bedraggled appearance toward the end of the clip.

"True Detective" is intended to be an anthology. Harrelson and McConaughey are only signed for one season, and if the show does well enough to earn a second year, it would feature new actors and a new crime story.

"True Detective" is scheduled to premiere in January. Does the trailer make you interested to watch the full series?
