Tupac Shakur remembered 15 years after his murder
Shakur was just 25-years-old when he was shot Sept. 7 after leaving the Mike Tyson/Bruce Seldon fight in Las Vegas. He succumbed to his wounds six days later. The coroner's report said Shakur was shot once in the chest, once in right hip and a third time in his right hand. The driver of the car Shakur was in during the shooting, then Death Row Records head Marion "Suge" Knight, was shot once in the neck and survived.
The crime has never been solved. It is thought that the Shakur's shooting was part of the East Coast-West Coast rap rivalry and in some ways responsible for the 1997 murder of Biggie Smalls, although multiple theories persist.
Shakur has been as prolific in death as he was in life. He left behind enough material for seven albums, six of which went platinum. His 1998 greatest hits album went "diamond," meaning it sold in excess of 10 million discs.
