TV bites: 'Mad Men' on DVD, 'Boondocks' back on TV
The Emmy-winning AMC series will be available on DVD an Blu-ray on March 23, a little over four months after the season -- which followed tumultuous changes in both the personal and professional life of Don Draper (Jon Hamm) along with the Kennedy assassination -- came to a close.
That's a quicker-than-usual turnaround for the DVD set -- both of the previous two seasons were released the summer after they aired on AMC.
The season 3 set will come in "limited edition 'lowball glass'" packaging and feature a number of commentary tracks from the cast and crew along with interviews and featurettes on the real-life events of 1963. The Blu-ray edition will also include an interactive feature on the people and things that shaped the year 1963.
The fourth season of "Mad Men" is set to premiere next summer, producer Lionsgate says.
- Right around that time in March, you should also be seeing a new season of "The Boondocks" on Adult Swim.
The series based on Aaron McGruder's comic strip, has been absent from TV since March 2008. Over the summer, Adult Swim ran a bumper saying it had seen new scripts, and McGruder posted several screen shots from the show on Twitter in November.
On Friday he tweeted that the show finally has an airdate: "Not sure if I'm allowed to put it out yet, so I'll just say you got about three months!"
