The premiere of "Big Brother" fell short of its 2012 debut, slipping by about 800,000 viewers and half a point among adults 18-49 vs. last year. It did, however, lead its hour in viewers Wednesday and tied with FOX's "Masterchef" for the top spot among adults 18-49.

"Masterchef" grew in its second hour and gave FOX the top 18-49 rating for the night as a whole. Elsewhere, ABC's comedy "How to Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life)" ended its first and only season quietly.

FOX averaged 5.74 million viewers and a 3.5 rating/6 share in households in primetime, edging CBS (5.66 million, 3.7/6) for the top spot. NBC came in third with 4.45 million viewers and a 3.2/6. ABC (3.35 million, 2.2/4) came in fourth, and The CW (1.4 million, 0.9/2) trailed.

FOX also led the adults 18-49 race with a 2.3 rating. CBS finished second with a 1.5, half a point better than NBC's 1.0. ABC posted a 0.9 and The CW a 0.4.
