TV Ratings: Brett Favre loses but football wins for NBC

Brett Favre's return to the field during the Vikings/49ers pre-season game was good for "NBC Sunday Night Football" -- it helped the network win both total viewers and adults 18-49.

The oft-rumored retiree's four plays helped NBC average 8.6 million viewers and a 5.4 rating/10 share in households, besting closest competition CBS, which averaged 6.8 million and a 4.3/7. ABC came in third with 5 million and a 3.0/5, and FOX brought up the rear with 3.8 million and a 2.2/4.

NBC also took the strongest numbers in the 18-49 demo with a 2.7 rating. CBS and FOX tied for second place (both at 1.7), and ABC followed with a 1.3.
