The deciding game of the NHL's Stanley Cup Finals scored for NBC Wednesday, improving on the fast national numbers for last year's final game and giving the NHL its biggest audience on American TV in a long time.

NBC's numbers will change some because of the live telecast, but as things stand the network led the night with 8.05 million viewers and a 4.6 rating/8 share in households. FOX (7.4 million, 4.4/7) came in second, a good ways ahead of CBS (5.8 million, 3.8/6). ABC was fourth with 4.5 million viewers and a 2.9/5, while The CW (1.2 million, 0.8/1) trailed.

The Boston Bruins' victory also delivered among adults 18-49, giving NBC a 3.2 rating for the evening. FOX finished second in the demographic with a 2.6. ABC's 1.4 beat CBS' 1.2 for third, and The CW came in at 0.4.
