TV ratings: 'Chicago PD' has decent premiere, People's Choice Awards up in viewers Wednesday

The People's Choice Awards carried CBS to a ratings win Wednesday night, but it also turned in its lowest adults 18-49 rating in six years. It did rise a little in total viewers.

Also Tuesday, "Chicago PD" had a decent premiere for NBC, improving significantly on the debut of "Ironside" in the fall. "Revolution" and "Law & Order: SVU" were also up. "The Middle" returned higher for ABC, and "Modern Family" was even with its last original.

CBS averaged 8.9 million viewers and a 5.7 rating/9 share in households in primetime, beating out NBC (7.8 million, 5.1/8) for the top spot. ABC (5.95 million, 3.7/6) came in third. FOX (2.9 million, 1.7/3) took fourth, and The CW trailed with 1.1 million viewers and a 0.7/1.

CBS also led the adults 18-49 race with a 2.1 rating. ABC and NBC tied for second at 1.9. FOX drew a 1.2 and The CW a 0.3.
