The return of Isaiah Washington's Dr. Burke to "Grey's Anatomy" gave the show its best ratings in two months Thursday night, making it one of the bright spots in a mostly down night on the broadcast networks.

ABC's "Black Box" dropped a bit from its premiere last week, losing half of the "Grey's" rating among adults 18-49. "The Big Bang Theory" was steady for CBS, but the CBS' other comedies fell, including "Bad Teacher," which was down by more than half a point in the 18-49 demo. "American Idol" also fell on FOX, and the "iHeartRadio Music Awards" debuted to mediocre numbers for NBC. "The Vampire Diaries" and "Reign" were flat in adults 18-49 but rose some in The CW's core under-35 demo.

CBS drew 9.4 million viewers and a 6.0 rating/10 share in households for the night. ABC (6.1 million, 4.3/7) came in second, beating out NBC's 5.45 million and 3.3/6. FOX (4.9 million, 3.0/5) came in fourth, and The CW (1.6 million, 1.1/2) trailed.

CBS also led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 2.2 rating. NBC took second with a 1.7, edging ABC's 1.6 and FOX's 1.4. The CW earned a 0.6.
