FOX scored Monday's best ratings thanks to "House," but the real news is elsewhere: The return of "The Event" to NBC after three months off drew soft numbers, and "Two and a Half Men" fell by more than a million viewers from last week's episode on the day Charlie Sheen got fired.

FOX averaged 9.3 million viewers and a 5.5 rating/9 share in households for the night, finishing a little bit ahead of ABC (8.5 million, 5.6/9). A rerun-heavy slate on CBS took third with 8.05 million viewers and a 5.0/8. NBC (6.6 million, 4.3/7) came in fourth. The CW (601,000, 0.4/1) was a non-factor with its rerun lineup.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 2.9 rating beat out ABC's 2.5 for the lead. CBS took third in the demo with a 2.3, followed by NBC at 1.5. The CW managed only a scant 0.2.
