TV ratings: Live '30 Rock' improves but 'Idol' and 'Big Bang Theory' lead Thursday
"The Big Bang Theory" and "American Idol" occupied the top ratings spots Thursday night as usual, but while "Idol" was pretty much even with its numbers last week, the first new "BBT" in three weeks was down a little.
Elsewhere, a live episode of "30 Rock" helped the show score its best ratings in several weeks, while "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal" were both steady in adults 18-49 for ABC. "The Vampire Diaries" was more or less on par with recent original episodes, but "The Secret Circle" lost nearly half its lead-in audience.
CBS led the night in viewers, drawing 11.6 million people and a 7.2 rating/12 share in households. FOX (10.5 million, 6.4/10) came in second, while ABC (7.7 million, 5.2/8) finished third. There was a pretty big drop to fourth-place NBC, which averaged 3.1 million viewers and a 2.0/3. The CW trailed with 1.7 million viewers and a 1.1/2.
The adults 18-49 title went to FOX, which earned a 2.9 rating in the demographic. CBS took second with a 2.6, followed by ABC at 2.2. NBC scored a 1.4 and The CW a 0.8.
