Wednesday night's ratings stuck mostly to the script set out in the first couple weeks of the season. "Modern Family" was once again the top show in adults 18-49, "The X Factor" was in line with its previous performance and CBS (total viewers) and FOX (adults 18-49) led the evening.

Elsewhere, the second episode of "Suburgatory" held onto most of its premiere audience, and "Law & Order: SVU" rebounded some in viewers after last week's low. ABC's "Revenge" was down a little, and CBS' "Criminal Minds" rose thanks in part to "The X Factor" only running 90 minutes.

CBS averaged 11.9 million viewers and a 7.2 rating/11 share in households for the night, beating FOX (10.2 million, 5.9/9) for the overall lead. ABC took third with 8.9 million viewers and a 5.6/9. NBC (6.85 million, 4.5/7) came in fourth, and The CW was well off the pace with 1.4 million viewers and a 1.0/2.

FOX led a tight three-way race for the adults 18-49 lead with a 3.5 rating. CBS grabbed second with a 3.3, edging ABC's 3.2. NBC was a distant fourth at 1.6, and The CW trailed with a 0.6.
