TV ratings: NBA Finals up over 2011, scores big for ABC Tuesday
The opening of the NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat gave ABC a big ratings win Tuesday night, improving on last year's first game and more than doubling the 18-49 rating of its nearest competitor.
ABC averaged 11 million viewers and a 6.8 rating/11 share among households in primetime, although those numbers will rise when adjusted for the live NBA broadcast (the game scored an 11.8 overnight rating in metered markets, ABC's best mark for a Finals opener). CBS (7.2 million, 4.8/8) came in second in viewers, a little ahead of NBC's 6.9 million and 4.2/7. FOX (5.1 million, 3.0/5) finished fourth. The CW was way off the pace with just 520,000 viewers and a 0.4/1.
ABC dominated the adults 18-49 demographic with a 4.6 rating. FOX and NBC tied for second place at 2.1. CBS averaged a 1.2 in the demo and The CW a 0.2.
