TV Ratings: NBC's NFL match-up eclipses the Emmys

michael-vick-eagles-gi.jpgThe 63rd annual Emmy broadcast may have been a hit with the 10 million viewers who tuned in for all or part of the show, but the TV love-fest was utterly crushed by NBC's Sunday night football matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons. In Emmy's defense, the game was of particular interest because it marked quarterback Michael Vick's return to his old home town for the first time since he was fired by the Falcons in the wake of that whole dog-fighting scandal.

The Eagles/Falcons game drew 17.8 million viewers with a 10.9 rating/17 share for the night. FOX's Emmy broadcast trailed way behind with 10.3 million viewers (6.4/10). We should also point out that Emmy's numbers were down from last year, too -- when the broadcast drew 13.5 million viewers. CBS' came in third with 8.7 million (5.6/9), while ABC finished last with 5.1 million viewers (3.3/5).

It's no surprise that football also scored in the coveted 18-49 viewership demographic, with an overall 7.4 rating to the Emmys' 3.6.

Note: Last year's Emmy broadcast aired on Aug. 29, before the beginning of football season.
