FOX's new comedy "New Girl" premiered to solid ratings Tuesday, building on its "Glee" lead-in and snagging the night's best adults 18-49 rating. CBS' drama "Unforgettable" also had a solid debut, as did the two "NCIS" shows, which were both up from last season.

"Glee," meanwhile, was down significantly from its debut last season, and "Body of Proof" also began its season below its premiere last year. "Ringer" dipped a bit from its premiere last week but is still well ahead of last season's time-period average for The CW.

CBS led the night in viewers with 16.7 million, along with a 10.4 rating/16 share in households. ABC (11.65 million, 7.8/12) took second overall, followed by FOX at 8.7 million viewers and a 5.2/8. NBC (5.8 million, 3.7/6) was fourth, and The CW (1.8 million, 1.1/2) trailed.

Thanks to "New Girl" and "Glee," FOX won the adults 18-49 demographic with a 3.9 rating, beating out CBS' 3.6. ABC finished third at 2.4. NBC, 2.2, came in fourth, and The CW scored a 0.8.
