CBS' first night of NCAA tournament coverage was down a good amount from the same night last year, dropping CBS to third place in viewers and adults 18-49 for the night. ABC's "Scandal" claimed the top spot for the night as it improved a bit on last week. So did "Grey's Anatomy."

Also Thursday, "American Idol" dipped a little from last week's results show for FOX. "Community" and "Parks and Recreation" ticked up for NBC, as did "The Vampire Diaries" and "Reign" on The CW.

FOX (6.83 million viewers, 4.2/7 households) edged ABC (6.8 million, 4.7/8) for the lead in total viewers in primetime. CBS came in third with 3.75 million viewers and a 2.5/4, pending updates for its live NCAA telecast. NBC (3.5 million, 2.2/4) came in fourth, and The CW (1.9 million, 1.2/2) trailed.

ABC led the 18-49 demographic with a 2.0 rating. FOX finished second with a 1.8, and CBS and NBC tied for third at 1.1. The CW drew a 0.9.
