TV ratings: 'Smash' crashes and burns Tuesday
The overhaul of "Smash" between its first and second seasons didn't translate to any ratings improvement. The NBC show's two-hour season premiere tanked, finishing with a meager 1.1 rating in adults 18-49.
Elsewhere, CBS once again dominated Tuesday as "NCIS" topped 21 million viewers. "New Girl" grew in viewers over last week, and "The Mindy Project" also improved for FOX. "Hart of Dixie" was up in viewers for The CW and matched its season highs in the network's key 18-34 demos.
CBS averaged 16.1 million viewers and a 9.9 rating/16 share in households for the night -- 9-million plus more than second-place ABC (7 million, 4.6/7). NBC (5 million, 3.3/5) cam in third. FOX took fourth with 4 million viewers and a 2.4/4. The CW (1.5 million, 0.9/1) trailed.
CBS also led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 2.8 rating. ABC finished second with a 2.3. FOX grabbed third with a 1.9, followed by NBC, 1.2, and The CW, 0.5.
