The premiere of "The Sing-Off" on NBC Monday improved significantly over its debut last year, but a full slate of original episodes on CBS scored the night's biggest audience. The inaugural American Country Awards on FOX, meanwhile, didn't do much for the network.

CBS led the broadcast networks Monday night with 10.5 million viewers and a 6.5 rating/10 share in households. (ESPN will probably claim the crown for all of TV with a highly touted "Monday Night Football" game.) "The Sing-Off" helped NBC to a better-than-usual 7.4 million viewers and 4.6/7. ABC (6.01 million, 3.9/6) and FOX (5.97 million, 3.6/5) finished in a virtual tie for third, although ABC's numbers may come down slightly as its Boston affiliate aired the "MNF" game. The CW (2.1 million, 1.4/2) had its most-watched Monday of the season.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, CBS led the way with a 3.3 rating, beating out NBC's 2.4. No other network broke the 2.0 mark; ABC and FOX tied for third at 1.5, and The CW earned a 1.0.
