'Ugly Betty': 'Mad Men's' Bryan Batt says Marc may be into daddies

As Zap2it reported yesterday (March 11), Bryan Batt, "Mad Men's" Sal Romano, will be guest starring on "Ugly Betty."

He's set to appear in the next to the last episode of the series on April 7, but Batt tells us there's a possibility he's sticking around for the finale.

Today, we spoke to him about his upcoming spin on the ABC series and how he may win Michael Urie's character, Marc St. James' heart:

The news of your guest appearance on "Ugly Betty" just got out. How are you feeling about it?
I'm so honored that they asked me to do it. After "Mad Men," a lot of times they think I'm just a dramatic actor, but my history is really musical comedy. I was just really flattered that the writers and producers wanted me for the part. So, I join the ranks of my buddy and fellow "Mad Men" actor, Rich Sommer, who appeared on the show, as well.

Have you already started shooting on your episode?
I've filmed one day so far, I have a couple more to shoot. I think I'm going to be in the finale episode, too, but I have not received a script, yet. I'm hoping.

What do you think of the show so far?
I think it's really a fun show and the performances are great. It's for adults and it's intelligent and very funny. It has a great look to it, as well. It has a unique design aspect, which I find very appealing.

What is your character like?
I play Spencer, who is a soap opera star. From what I understand he plays twins on a soap opera. One is an evil doctor and the other is even more evil. So far in this episode, Amanda is trying to set me up with Marc. That's what's happening so far. I don't know what's happening further than that. There are some fun plot twists that I don't want to give away, because people want to watch and experience when it airs.

Why does Amanda decide to set your character up with Marc?
Oh, well, just look at my headshot [laughs]. Who knows. He might be into the daddy type.

Is Michael Urie your type?
You know I've been in a relationship for 21 years, so I'm going to have to pass on that one. He's a sweetheart. He's such a cutie and so sweet. He's a doll. He really is.

How do you feel about this being "Ugly Betty's" last season?
I was shocked to hear that it was canceled. It's always sad when a show is canceled that has been so popular for this long. Also, from being on the set, they're a great family. They're a great group of people. I've known Judith Light forever and she's such a beautiful warm person. Everyone on the set is very positive like a great family just like we have on "Mad Men."

What do you think? Will Spencer charm the pants off Marc?
