Valerie Harper's brain cancer is 'close to remission'
Life is looking bright for actress Valerie Harper. Though she was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in mid-January, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" star recently learned she might have another lease on life.
"I'd say that we're getting pretty close to a remission. ... It defies the odds," Harper's doctor, neuro-oncologist Dr. Jeremy Rudnick, tells "Today." He cautions, "The problem is that at anytime this can change" as the cancer can "develop resistance to the therapy" and "it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when."
But that mentality hasn't shaken Harper. She's just excited that she gets more time at all. Her husband Tony Cacciotti says, "Going from having three months to live, or less; we're into our sixth month, and now there's even hope beyond right now we're looking at ..." "We're looking at Christmas!" Harper cuts in.
That's not all Harper is looking at, as Harper is reportedly joining "Dancing With the Stars" Season 17. Though that news isn't confirmed, it would be impressive to see Harper take the stage. "Good Morning America" will announce the names of the celebrity contestants next week.
