"The Vampire Diaries" fans really love Ian Somerhalder. Sure, they also love his TV character of Damon, but the actor gets plenty of affection. According to a story Somerhalder told on "Live with Kelly and Michael" on Thursday (Oct. 17), one fan -- dressed as Wonder Woman -- even assaulted him at Comic-Con.

The story came up when the morning-show hosts asked the actor about crazy encounters with the devoted "Vampire Diaries" fan base. Somerhalder was quick to come up with a Comic-Con story that answered perfectly.

It seems that Somerhalder and "TVD" co-star Paul Wesley were taking a bathroom break at the San Diego Comic-Con when this encounter occurred. "There was this six-foot Wonder Woman there," Somerhalder recounted. "She literally grabbed me by my throat, lifted me up and slammed me against the wall and held me there. And just said, 'I love you, I love you! I loooooove you!'"

Although Kelly Ripa was quite concerned about whether or not this particular Wonder Woman was a man or woman (since this was an incident from the little boys' room), the story was mostly met with laughs by hosts and guest.

Of course, Ian Somerhalder had more to talk about than just Comic-Con and fans. He also had a rather odd story about his dog, a rescue animal he had taken to get spayed recently. Unfortunately, that didn't work out so well. "They opened her up to spay her, and there were all those little puppies in there," he explained.

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev birth a litter of puppies together.

There wasn't too much more to the short interview. One thing of interest to those who know about the backstage workings of "The Vampire Diaries" came when Somerhalder brought up that Damon had finally gotten the girl on the show. "She's so adorable too!" Ripa exclaimed of Nina Dobrev at that.

Somerhalder's response, "Yeah, no kidding ..." Interpret that as you will.

"The Vampire Diaries" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
