vampire-diaries-season-4-portrait-elijah.jpgAwesome news for "Vampire Diaries" fans -- there is going to be some very good hair featured on the upcoming backdoor spin-off pilot, "The Originals." Daniel Gillies will reprise his role as the noble Original Elijah Mikaelson in the April 25 episode of "The Vampire Diaries." If the backdoor pilot gets picked up to series, Gillies will join "The Originals" full-time as a lead.

Also on board are Joseph Morgan as Elijah's power-hungry hybrid werewolf/vampire Klaus, and Phoebe Tonkin as the troubled werewolf orphan Hayley.

Deadline reports that the two brothers and Hayley will be at the series' center, similar to how Stefan, Damon, and Elena lead "The Vampire Diaries." We're not quite sure whether Hayley and the Original brothers will be in a love triangle, but it wouldn't be the first time Elijah and Klaus have set their sights on the same woman.

In addition to the three leads, executive producer Julie Plec is currently casting for Camille, a human college student studying psychology who is intrigued by the nature of evil, though she's unaware of her supernatural surroundings.

A central theme of the new series will be the voodoo and dark witchcraft running rampant in New Orleans' French Quarter, so naturally, witches will have a strong presence in the series. Fans can expect to meet Sophie, a witch whose magic has been compromised -- and she's not happy about it. She's certainly a force to be reckoned with, and she's sowing the seeds of a supernatural revolution.

Another series regular character yet to be cast is a teenage witch, Davina. Growing up, she's been very sheltered, but we're guessing that won't last very long with a couple of Original vampire brothers storming into town.

Who do you think should play the other characters? Weigh in below in the comments section!
