'Veronica Mars' movie adds Francis Capra and Christine Lakin

One of them is Francis Capra, who played biker kid Eli "Weevil" Navarro on the series. "Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas revealed Capra's casting Monday (June 10) in an e-mail update to the thousands of people who funded the movie's Kickstarter campaign.

"Playing a wrong-side-of-the-tracks-kid in a town full of privileged peers, Francis found a terrific -- and difficult -- balance between tough and soulful. I couldn't be happier that he'll be back with us for the film," Thomas writes.

Capra joins former series regulars Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, Percy Daggs III and Chris Lowell in the movie's cast. The film will be set at Veronica's (Bell) 10-year high school reunion.

Also attending the reunion -- and possibly adding some intrigue to the story -- will be Christine Lakin, whose casting was first noted by The Hollywood Reporter. Lakin ("Step by Step") only appeared in one episode of the show, but it was a doozy: "Mars vs. Mars," in which Veronica defends her favorite teacher ( Adam Scott) from charges that he had an affair with a student ( Leighton Meester, pre-"Gossip Girl").

Veronica proves that Meester's character, Carrie Bishop, was lying and clears her teacher's name, but later discovers Carrie was covering for another student, played by Lakin, who became pregnant after sleeping with Scott's character.

Could that mean an appearance from Scott (who also starred in "Party Down," which Thomas co-created) is in the cards too? We'll see.
